Hey! My name is Maja, I am a social anthropology student and photographer based in Sweden, with a background in the Swedish human rights sector. My academic research focuses on social movements, activism, embodiment, and migration, and I use photography in my work.

LESVOS – GREECE – 2024
As part of an international team, I went with Amnesty International Sweden to observe the first days of the trial of several volunteer rescue workers. They are risking 20 years in prison for saving lives at sea. We went to observe and report, but also to show solidarity with the defendants who are being criminalised for their solidarity. These photos show one of the defendants, Seán Binder (middle), and other observers.
HELGA DOROTEA FILM – RAMSGATE – 2018
A beautiful artistic collaboration with Ramsgate-based artist Helga Dorothea, combining photography and moving image for a short film. These photos were taken in the spring of 2018. This specific roll was, to everyone’s devastation, lost soon after. It was, however, found in 2024!

During a recent trip to the islands of Santiago and Boa Vista, I explored the concept of belonging and identity.
FIELDWORK-SWEDEN-2025
My fieldwork, spanning over several months in 2025, has focused on the Swedish student movement for Palestine. Through interviews and participant observation, photo elicitation, among other methods, I attempted to examine the student movement as a social movement and knowledge producer, and to examine how the body is used in protest and activism, and how it is affected.
Stockholm – Sweden – 2024
Amnesty Sweden’s women’s rights activism group in Stockholm arranged a quiz on the 8th of March 2024. The quiz was held at AB Cafe in Telefonplan, aimed to give people a chance to meet and socialise, but at the same time learn about women’s rights issues around the world
